Film
In Years 5 and 6, students specialising in Film will explore film as a cinematic art form and track its development through history, theory, and production techniques.
Combining practical application with theory, students will analyse films to understand how and why films are made the way they are through language, grammar, and cultural contexts. They will examine issues in film, from formal aesthetics to historical representations, and explore the impact of globalisation on regional film industries and audience reception. The programme will also highlight how time and space influence filmmaking processes, emphasising the cinema’s role in facilitating social and cultural exchanges.
Students will also acquire the technical proficiency and collaborative skills necessary to create and present their own cinematic works, exploring the artistic possibilities in film itself. They are encouraged to analyse purpose, form, and context to think deeply and critically about cinema as a medium of expression and an art form.
