Dance

SOTA’s Dance programme nurtures a mind-body approach to learning about the body’s capabilities for movement and expression. Students will gain confidence as performers and creators, and a deep understanding of dance across various cultures and historical contexts.

 

The programme incorporates theory to promote inquiry and reflection, fostering analytical and critical thinking skills. Ultimately, the programme instils passion and discipline in resilient learners, empowering them to hone their abilities and excel as performers.

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop proficient knowledge and awareness of the body through exposure to and practice of various dance techniques
  • Develop composition and analytical skills for creative expression and communicating ideas through choreography
  • Understand the importance of protecting, maintaining, and preserving the dancer’s body
  • Understand the histories, issues, and theoretical frameworks of dance, as well as garner knowledge on a wide range of dance genres, including ballet, contemporary dance, and Southeast Asian dance forms
