Partnership Collaborations in 2023

In 2023, SOTA students had numerous opportunities to showcase their artistic works through the school’s collaborations with industry partners and institutions.
Light to Night Festival 2023
In January, students from the Frame by Frame CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) created an original projection for the facade of the Asian Civilisation Museum as part of Light to Night Festival 2023, organised by National Gallery Singapore. The collaboration is intended as a capability development programme to nurture the next generation of light projection artists.
The students developed the animation and soundtrack for the projection based on the festival theme of “Here and Now”. It follows the journey of an abandoned cat and its encounters through time and space.
SMRT Comic Connect Project
In celebration of SMRT’s 35th anniversary, SMRT embarked on a series of artist collaborations to engage and connect with the community through stories that involve interesting and significant landmarks, history or milestones of the areas around their stations. Our Visual Arts students created digital illustration murals for the Jurong East station (left) and Serangoon station (right).
Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) Talk
In April, the SGIFF team organised a talk with SOTA Film students. The sharing session by the illustrious National Youth Film Awards (NYFA) alumni hopes to inspire students on their creative journeys by hearing from past NYFA winners to learn from their experience.

In Conversation With
In May, SOTA Film students were invited to attend the In Conversation With, a series of exclusive conversations hosted by Marina Bay Sands which featured prominent speakers with a wealth of experience in the film, arts, and culture scene. Our students had the exclusive opportunity to speak with and learn from director Steven Caple Jr. and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura who worked on the blockbuster movie, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Singapore Night Festival 2023
In August, SOTA’s very own Pop/Jazz Ensemble and Pocket Pugs performed songs from the 80s and 90s as well as the recent chart toppers at SOTA Steps as part of the Singapore Night Festival 2023.
Students from the Street Dance CAS were also invited to perform in the SMU Arts Festival, organised by the Singapore Management University in conjunction with the Singapore Night Festival.
The Street Dance CAS was formed by a group of Year 5 students as part of their Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) project. Through Street Dance CAS, the students aim to provide a platform for their peers across various art forms to express their passion for street dance, and at the same time highlight the importance of physical health and well-being.
Collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB)
A group of International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) Visual Arts students created a mural that was featured in STB’s exclusive corporate hospitality suite for the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix 2023. Their mural ‘A Bit of Singapore’ is inspired by the cityscape of Singapore. Rendered in an 8-bit art style to infuse a sense of nostalgia, it pays homage to the past, present and future of our little Red Dot, showcasing the various iconic landmarks and modes of transportation through the times.

“and worlds and wonders” — Collaboration with Urban Redevelopment Authority
In collaboration with the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), Year 4 Literary Arts (LA) students wrote poems on Kampong Gelam as part of URA’s Architectural Heritage Season 2023. This collaboration marks the very first external poetry exhibition by the LA faculty and students, named “and worlds and wonders”.
The students’ works are displayed at the URA Centre, City Canvas Gallery, till the end of January 2024.
